United Nations Organization: COVID-19 Phishing Scams on the Rise
We continue to see increased COVID-19 phishing scams and sometimes they even use official government names in an attempt to hook you.
Here is what an example looks like:
Below is an email we recently encountered. Here the scammer wants Bitcoin in exchange for not releasing sensitive videos of you. It is becoming a common email money scam. If you see it you should delete it!
So, what can I do to stay safe from this kind of “scare tactic” attack?
- Never send any money using bitcoin to strangers. Scammers and Scammers have turned this scare tactic into a weapon to convince you to send them money.
- If you receive any emails threatening to share data on social media, always contact your IT Department to investigate even when you feel embarrassed by this common scare tactic.
- Pay attention to where the email is coming from. In this case, it was sent from an iCloud account.
